Custom Made Exterior Door

Our client owns a vintage home here in Riverside, CA. Her back door had been replaced with an aluminum-clad, big-box store door at some point in the past. She wanted to upgrade to a door that was more in keeping with the look of her home. She shopped around, but found nothing to her liking. The client knew exactly what she wanted - she provided us with photos of doors she was inspired by. In the end, we designed, built and installed this solid maple, 4 lite door. She was so happy with it that she immediately ordered a matching door for her front entrance.

Quality Materials

We offered the client 3 wood types - maple, mahogany, and white oak. We showed her samples of each and she chose to have the door made from maple as it would stain up to the exact color she had in mind. We milled the lumber in our shop and created all the molding and window muntons from the same maple stock to ensure a clean look.

Vintage Hardware

The client visited vintage hardware shops and picked out the mortice lock set that spoke to her. We used a combination of power tools and traditional chisels to create the mortice and through holes to accommodate the lockset

The Finish

We provided the client color sample on scraps from the actual door. She choose a hand rubbed oil stain with a satin clear coat finish. We applied two coats of oil stain followed by 6 coats of clear.

The Fit

We removed the existing metal door and rehung it elsewhere in her home. We then hung the new door and adjusted it as necessary for a good fit and ensured that the lockset worked as it was intended.
